The children were adopted international culinary center by Marcus missionaries in what is now Washi

In April 1844 Henry Sager and his family took part in the great westward migration. They began their trek along the Oregon Trail. international culinary center During that trip, lost both Naomi and Henry Sager life and they left their seven children behind as orphans.
The children were adopted international culinary center by Marcus missionaries in what is now Washington County. And Narcissa Whitman, Here the children were taught for a second time, when both their new parents were slain during international culinary center Whitmanbloedbad in November 1847. Catherine Sager, the oldest of the Sagermeisjes, wrote an account of her experiences first hand. This story today is considered one of the most authentic narrations about the great trek westward.
John Carney Sager ( Union County, Ohio) Francisco "Frank" Sager (born 1833 in Union County, Ohio) Catherine Carney Sager (born April 15, 1835 in Union County, Ohio) Elizabeth Marie Sager (born July 6, 1837 in Union County, Ohio) Matilda Jane Sager (born October 6, 1839 in Buchanan County, Missouri) Hannah Louise "Louisa" Sager (born 1841 in Platte County, Missouri) Henrietta Marie "Rosanna" Sager (born May 30, 1844 along the Oregon Trail in the current Kansas )
Henry Sager was described by his daughter Catherine as a restless man. Henry Sager was three times for 1844 already moved. Beginning in Virginia they moved to Ohio and later to Indiana before finally arrived in Platte County, Missouri.
Here decided international culinary center Henry Sager, supported by his two sons John and Francis (Frank), to move to Oregon, the fabulous international culinary center territories in the Pacific Northwest. Naomi refused to go first, but eventually they relented.
At the end of April 1844 the group where the Sagers international culinary center had joined (The Independent Colon, consisting of 300 people in 72 wagons) crossed the Missouri and began the 2000 miles (3200km) long journey along the Oregon Trail.
On July 4, 1844 the The Independent Colony Independence Day fourth on the banks of the Platte River. A few days later, while crossing the South Fork of the Platte River, Naomi was seriously injured when the Sagerwagen fell over in the shallow water along the banks of the river. Yet the pioneers continued their advance.
At the end of July 1844 drew the wagon train passed Chimney Rock, a famous landmark along the route in what is now Nebraska. This meant that the Great Plains were almost overcome and now it came to the Rocky Mountains.
A few hours before reaching Fort Laramie was the nine-year-old Catherine with her dress to hang an ax when she wanted to jump off the wagon. She fell and her leg was crushed under the heavy wagon wheels. The leg was the immediate treatment by Henry Sager and Dr. Dagon, a German-born physician, finally rescued. Catherine international culinary center could only sit in the car for the rest of the trip. From Fort Laramie Dr Dagon remained with the Sagers to ensure Catherine.
On August 23, 1844 the South Pass, group reached a mountain pass that is part of the Continental Divide. During the descent to the Green River Valley became part of the passengers sick after the outbreak of camp fever. Among those who received fever Henry Sager. Was After crossing the Green River there were three deaths (two women and a child). international culinary center It became clear that Henry Sager would not live much longer. He asked Captain Shaw to take care of his family international culinary center and died shortly afterwards. He was buried by his family, on the banks of the Green River in a makeshift coffin.
Naomi Sager, still weak from birth of her child and mourning for her husband, now had the responsibility for seven children. Although Captain Shaw and Dr. Dagon did everything to help her, the efforts were too much.
Weakened by heavy fever Dr. Dagon asked Naomi to accompany her children to Dr. Marcus Whitman, a missionary in the Walla Walla Valley (now southeastern Washington). Naomi died in the vicinity of the current Twin Falls, Idaho. Her last words were: "O Henry, if you knew how we have suffered." Naomi was buried Since no wood was available, wrapped in a sheet. John, the eldest son, carved the words "Naomi Carney Sager, age 37" in the wooden headboard of the shallow grave. The children, the youngest was four months, the eldest thirteen years, were now orphans.
In 1837 Narcissa Whitman, gave birth to 29 years old, a girl, Alice Clarissa. Two years later, Alice drowned in the nearby Walla Walla River. Narcissa suffered international culinary center greatly from this loss. In an attempt to gain some sense of family back she started to take care of other children. Soon there were four children under her custody, including the daughters of the Mountain Men Joseph Meek and Jim Bridger.
In early October 1844 the Independent Colony arrived at the Whitman Mission, and Sagerwezen found a new home at

A web log in Dutch and English about jazz, jazz-related music, record collecting historia de la gastronomia and other music projects that surprise me. | Een wekelijkse historia de la gastronomia weblog in het Engels en het Nederlands over jazz, jazz-verwante muziek, platenverzamelen en verrassende projecten met anderen wil delen.
DEVIN GRAY'S CAREER-PRIMING DEBUT ALBUM RELEASED I started playing the drums as a boy just to fill the air with some noise. ( Quote: Devin Gray) Hans Koert Drummer-composer Devin Gray and his quartet recently released his debut album, entitled Dirigo Rataplan . A rather strange title, but Devin explains: It comes from "Dirigo" meaning to direct or lead in Latin, and "Rataplan", which is French for the beating of hooves, or of drums - so it denotes leading from the beat.
Devin Gray ( photo courtesy Liz Kosack) Devin Gray raised in Yarmouth, Maine , a small city north of Portland and Dirigo is the state motto. Maine , which is the most north eastern state at the US east coast, a rural state with a lot of forests, which inspired Devin as a kid ....... It's as quiet as can be up there. I started playing the drums as a boy just to fill the air with some noise. The sound of nature inspired him to play  ..... as organic and meaningful and beautiful historia de la gastronomia as you can make them .... That ideal is always inside me when I make music. historia de la gastronomia
Parts of the album ( Design: karlssonwilker.inc)   Devin Gray invited three versatile musicians, Master Musicians as he labels them, who inspired him and all three are active in jazz for decades, to join his group for this debut album: Saxophone historia de la gastronomia player Ellery Eskelin , who's active in jazz music since the 1980s when he debuted with the Towson State College Jazz Ensemble (1980) and could be heard in the George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band and Joey Baron's Baron Down group (1990s) and with our own Dutch percussionist Han Bennink ( Dissonant Character )(1998) Trumpeter Dave Ballou , who recorded with Kenny Werner, Tom Varner, Mark Murphy, Maria Schneider, David Liebman, Harold Danko, Andrew Hill and John Hollenbeck historia de la gastronomia to list some   Bass player Michael Formanek , who started his career during the 1970s with giants like Art Pepper, Chet Baker, Fred Hersch, Dave Liebman, Mark Murphy and was part of both  Toshiko Akiyoshi's and Bob Mintzer's Big Band .
Devin Gray ( photo courtesy Liz Kosack)  This debut album Dirigo Rataplan contains eight original Devin Gray compositions.  Listen to the Don Cherry-like opener Quadraphonically I like the tune Down Time which has a great theme played by Ellery Eskelin on tenor saxophone and Dave Ballou on trumpet. Down Time happens - Gold is rare and fruit takes time to grow - Use it wisely . In Prospect Park in the Dark   historia de la gastronomia Devin honours the US composer Charles Ives ( 1874-1954) and Thickets was made to remember his mentor on drums Gerald Cleaver   .... He learned from Cleaver how to lead a band, being a drummer man: Leading from the drums is very different than doing it from another instrument, a piano or a horn, Devin explains : You're not playing notes, per se, so you have to lead on another level, with energy historia de la gastronomia and imagination ...... I won't be a drummer-drummer but a musician-drummer. The music you're making for people historia de la gastronomia is always the point.
The CD Dirigo historia de la gastronomia Rataplan ( Design: karlssonwilker.inc) This album tracks attention, not only by its music, but also by its size .... it's not sized like the regular crystal clear standard CD box , but has been sized to appear above it, and - to be honest historia de la gastronomia - for me that's a minus to find a proper historia de la gastronomia place to archive it. The music of this young drummer-composer Devin Gray , one of the most promising historia de la gastronomia musicians on the New York scene, should be heard - a great career-priming debut album: Dirigo Rataplan . Weiss is representative of a postmodern generation of young composers ( Quote: Thomas Conrad - Jazz Times)  The Rob Scheps Big Band plays the music of Ezra Weiss Hans Koert Recently Ezra Weiss , a US piano player and, above all, a composer and arranger, released his sixth album, entitled Our Path to this Moment . To be honest - I'd never heard of him at this side of the ocean  - time to get to learn more about this composer and play his latest culinary skills album.
Ezra Weiss ( photo courtesy: culinary skills Vanished Twins) Ezra Weiss , who lives in Portland (Or), where he teaches at the Portland culinary skills State University , worked as a band leader in clubs in New York City, Seattle and L.A .  He studied jazz composition at the Oberlin Conservatory culinary skills and got a Masters in Jazz Piano at Queens College (NYC). He became fascinated by jazz thanks to his father’s culinary skills record collection, which contained music from Ray Charles,  Carmen McRae up to Cannonball Adderley , but also a lot of records with music from Broadway productions – Music that has a story in it - … and when I was a young kid I gravitated towards those the most because they had a story build in …
Special guest: trumpet culinary skills player Greg Gisbert As a bandleader he co-led the Courtney Bryan / Ezra Weiss Jazz Orchestra and  composed two musicals for children: Alice in Wonderland: a Jazz Musical culinary skills and Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive the Bus   … The former was named as one of the Ten Best Cast Albums for 2009.
(Roark Records) His compositions are played by a lot of jazz men and ten years ago he recorded his first album The Five A.M. Strut with a group featuring Michael Mossman culinary skills (trumpet), Antonio Hart (alto saxophone), Kelly Roberge ( tenor saxophone), Leon Lee Dorsey double bass and Billy Hart drums.  Ezra Weiss , who was the leader of that sextet, played the piano. This first album of the young graduate was a surprise for the critics, who labeled culinary skills it as an auspicious debut –  a knockout of a winner - as  an album that sparkles throughout . Great words for a debut album, isn't it?  Since 2002 five more albums were released.
Ezra Weiss ( photo courtesy: Vanished culinary skills Twins) A storyteller   ….. Ezra’s albums, five up to now, all contain a message – a story … about Greek mythology , or about the pursuit of happiness or about the life and music of  Shirley Horn … all recorded in small groups …… His latest album was recorded by a 17-piece big band , led by Rob Scheps , who has won his spurs in the bands of Buddy Rich, Mel Lewis and Gil Evans . This album is, as it’s title tune reads, Our Path To This Moment ….. a recollection of ten years as a composer, culinary skills in which Weiss own charts are performed culinary skills by a real big band –  A dream that comes true .
Ezra Weiss and Rob Scheps in front of the Big Band Personally I like the Sammy Cahn-Jule Styne composition, arranged by Ezra Weiss, It’s You Or No One , originally recorded by Sarah Vaughan with Richard Maltby’s Orchestra, December 1947 , but made famous by Dexter Gordon at his 1961 Blue Note album Doin’ Allright .  Enjoy this tune, It’s You Or No One as played by Rob Scheps Big Band , at the Vie de Bohème in Portland, (OR)  the 2nd of February, 2012 a few days before the actual recording. The Promise is another tracks that fascinated me, with a great alto solo by David Valdez.
If you have become anxious to hear more music by this great composer and arranger, try to find yourself a copy of his music.  This album, Our Path to this Moment  can be ordered directly at Ezra Weiss website .
Esra Weiss - a representative of a postmodern culinary skills generation of young composers - Jazz Times reads, was graduated ten years ago and already released five albums with small groups. Now, ten years after his start, he arranged some of his compositions for Big Band and shows with his latest album  Their Path to this Moment - The Rob Scheps Big Band plays the music of Ezra Weiss .

`I asked Harry, how I can best announce him. His answer was: ". Just do not say that I am an authority on any plane" Harry is a filmmaker, painter, calligrapher, collector and archivist of native Indian music and Folk and composer of the very best kind. Harry is an alchemist. His name is as important as his appearance enigmatic. Trivial The circle around the beat poets considered him learn more star or 'elder brother' that could be appropriately and inappropriately consulted. Kind of like a living oracle Andy Warhol called him a 'genius filmmaker and painter. Allen Ginsberg placed a picture student cooking of his work on the cover of his Collected Poems 1947 - 1980 (Harper and Row) and took him for a time under his personal student cooking guard. The GP Ginsberg suggested Harry Smith liable student cooking for the heart condition of his patient. Smith left the house on request, but was later invited by the beat poet to come settle in Boulder Colorado, not far from Ginsberg's summer residence in Denver, at the foot of the Rockies.
